Roaches Are Not Family Friendly Guests

Do you live in the Roach Motel?  Seriously, is there evidence of these critters getting into your home as guests and staying as long as they like?  In your home they can find food, water and shelter.  This is the perfect place for them, as far as they are concerned.  This is the worst place for them to be, as far as your family is concerned.
These nasty, little creatures can pose a threat to your family’s health. Cockroaches are attracted to unsanitary areas.  They pick up allergens, germs and bacteria on their spiny little legs.  They will carry these unsavory things into your home.  When they walk across your kitchen counter top, get into your pantry, or walk across your dishes, they leave a trail of dirty, germ infested carnage behind.  Their dead, decaying bodies and their droppings can cause severe respiratory issues in people, especially children who have asthma or are prone to breathing difficulties.
You may be wondering just how do they get in your home.  Well, they literally walk right in.  They can come in on anything that is carried in like:
  • Clothes

  • Boxes

  • Shipped packages

  • Food

  • Furniture

  • Through utility lines into your home

Cockroaches aren’t picky how the hitch a ride into your home, they just want to get there.  They are attracted to your home because they are looking for food, heat, shelter, water, humidity and security.  They can usually find all of that in our homes.  Many people think that these yucky invaders are nocturnal.  That is not the case.  They seem to come out more readily at night because they are avoiding contact with any predator during the day.  They are very active in unoccupied buildings during any time of the day or night.
What can you do to keep them out of your house?
  • Clean!  A clean house is the least likely to attract and keep a cockroach’s interest.

  • Repair any cracks or crevices in the exterior of your home.  This will permanently close their access via these access points.

  • Keep food stored in air tight containers that are impermeable so that roaches can’t get into it.

  • Keep your home as less humid as possible.  If you run a dehumidifier, it will make your home less humid and moist making it less attractive to roaches.

  • Do not leave food covered dirty dishes lying around.  Rinse or wash them ASAP.

  • Open and examine packages and furniture outside before bringing them into your house.  If roaches are using these for a ride, then you will keep them outside.
