The consistently temperate climate in Hawaii makes it the ideal home for a host of plants, insects, and wildlife, many of which did not originate in this state. Termites are one of them--or I should say seven of them. The two worst termite species are the Formosan subterranean termite and the West Indian drywood termite, neither of which existed on the islands past around a hundred years ago. Within one human lifetime these termite species have gone from a few random occurrences, to $100 million in property damage each year.
