What are red jungle fowl?

Red jungle fowl (Gallus Gallus) are a type of feral chicken that are the same species as the domestic chicken and are found roaming all over Hawaii. They actually have inter-breed with domestic chickens and now it is very difficult to tell the two apart. Like many other bird species, the females and males look very different from each other. Females have no fleshy wattles or combs and have a mottled, camouflaged look to her feathers to help her blend in with her environment and protect her eggs. Males are much larger and have prominent fleshy wattles and combs on their heads. They also have long, brilliant iridescent tails that shimmer blue, purple, and green in color.
