What are feral pigs?

Feral pigs are pig descendants of domesticated pigs that now live in the wild without any assistance from people. They can be a variety of colors including black, dark brown, tan, spotted, or a combination of all. Feral pigs range in size from 150-250 pounds, with males being larger than the females. Feral pigs are opportunistic omnivores with vegetation making up most of their diet. They have very strong jaws that they use to crack nuts, or to feed on carcasses.

Why do I have them?

Feral pigs are often found on properties that neighbor forested areas. They enter onto properties to feed on grass, landscaping, gardens and any other vegetation or food sources that they can find.

Are feral pigs dangerous?

Yes, feral pigs are dangerous for several different reasons. Feral pigs are very large animals that are very aggressive and are extremely dangerous for adults, children and pets to be in close contact to. As they eat vegetation, they uproot plants and stomp on the ground causing it to become compact and making it difficult for new growth to survive. Also, their destructive activities will also often lead to areas of standing water on your property which will lead to increased mosquito activity. Mosquitoes can carry and transmit a variety of diseases to people, pets, and native wildlife species.

How do I get rid of feral pigs?

The only safe and effective way to control feral pigs on your property is with the help of an experienced wildlife control technician. At Sandwich Isle Pest Solutions, our experts have the patience, technology and skill to remove feral pigs from your property efficiently and humanely.

Can I do it myself?

Do-it-yourself feral pig control techniques should not be attempted. Feral pigs are extremely dangerous and should never be approached or trapped by someone who does not have the equipment or experience to handle them safely.
