What are Polynesian rats?

Polynesian rats are a smaller species of rat. Adults have a slender body that range in length from 4.5-6 inches in length, not including their tail. They have a pointed nose, large ears, and small feet relative to their body size. They are brownish in color and have a whitish body. Polynesian rats prefer to live and hide in areas that have a thick ground cover. They eat a wide variety of foods, including fruits, vegetables, seeds, spiders, and insects.

Why do I have them?

Polynesian rats invade homes and properties as they search for food and water. They prefer properties that are heavily wooded, or grassy. This kind of terrain provides them with lots of areas to hide and seek shelter in.

Are Polynesian rats dangerous?

Yes, Polynesian rats are dangerous. Like other rodent species, they can contaminate your home with their urine and feces. They can damage the structure of your home and your personal property by chewing through pipes, insulation, flooring, furniture and clothing. They can also introduce a variety of dangerous diseases and parasites to you and your family.

Can I do it myself?

Hawaii rodent control is best left to the professionals. Most do-it-yourself rodent control methods are not used correctly, making them ineffective. Also, they don’t address the route of the problem- how the rats are entering into your home and where they are living on your property. If you find that Polynesian rats have made your home their home, it is best to contact professionals as quickly as possible to help you eliminate these dangerous and damaging pests from your home.

Is the treatment safe?

When controlling mice on your property and in your home, the technicians, whenever possible, will use natural products, baits, and exclusions techniques. If more traditional pesticides are needed, you can be sure that they are EPA registered and will be used in the smallest amounts necessary to eliminate your infestation. Also, if any pesticide are used you can be sure that our technicians follow the strictest of guidelines to ensure that plants, pets and people on your property will not be harmed.
